While crossing the street you notice more people looking at their phones then actually making sure they don't get hit by a car.

Any free time is taken up by a cellphone that connects you to the entire world.
Even in the subway without any service to make calls or texts people have the habit of keeping their phones in their hands because that is where it remains for the majority of the day.

The lack of attention deficiency has caused people to not focus on one task. While driving, people will often use their cell phone to make a phone and even worse- text while driving.

I created this survey and conducted it in my Social Problems class and amongst other people from ages 18-45.
The pie charts below demonstrates how those 40 people who were surveyed answered.
Half of the people surveyed agreed that indeed they are addicted to their cellphones. 5% said they were not, 12% said they were somewhat addicted.

A shocking 78% said that they always check their cellphones right before they fell asleep and as soon as they woke up.  No one circled "never" and 15% said sometimes.

40% of those surveyed said they love their cellphones while 15% said they disagree and 18% claimed they loved it somewhat.

60% of those surveyed said they Always place their cellphone on their bed while they slept and 20% said they never place it on their bed while they slept.

45% of those surveyed claimed they place their cellphone on the table while they eat. 28% said sometimes and 10% circled "never."

43% of those included in the survey circled "Always" when asked if they use their cellphone in class or are very tempted to use it.  7% said "never" and 32% said sometimes.

Cellphones have tapped into every single part of our lives, They sustain our addiction by entertaining us with games and  music. This particular picture of "Family Guy" was drawn by me on an app called "DrawSomething." The touchscreen enables us to feel as if we are in control of everything while at the same time limiting our actual physical abilities to create this without a screen you can touch.

Real Love

One symptom of cellphone addiction: accessorizing. Stores like the one seen below run an entire business around the addiction of cellphones. They sell screen protectors for your phone, cases, and even chargers.
